Sasha Gier is a widely recognized kickboxing coach within the World Kickboxing Association and has successfully trained 15 championship belt holders.  He is also a boxing coach with the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) and is actively involved in developing up-and-coming competitive boxers.

A former Sergeant with the Air Assault Unit of Elite Soviet Marines who immigrated to Canada from the former USSR in 1990.  Sasha has worked with professional athletes, top business people as well as with competitive boxers and kick boxers.  He especially looks forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with anyone who is seeking to get an edge on their workouts, fitness levels and in their every day lives.

Marilyn Hellier

Marilyn Hellier is a physiotherapist who has been practicing since 1991, predominantly in Whistler as the co-owner of the Whistler Physiotherapy Group.  Her credentials include an Advanced Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Therapy (Part B), a Certificate in Sport Physiotherapy and is a Certified Gunn IMS practitioner. Marilyn is the Director of Physiotherapy for the Canadian Snowboard Federation and is a lead therapist for the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association and the BC Freestyle Ski Association.

Marilyn was selected as both a CSF and CSFA designated physiotherapist for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Marilyn presently divides her time between direct patient care within the clinics, administrative and management duties within the Whistler Physiotherapy Group and consulting/travel with the National Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Teams.

Susie Mortensen

Susie Mortensen is a physiotherapist who has been practicing for twenty-seven years in Whistler as the founder and clinic director of the Whistler Physiotherapy Group. She was a physiotherapist to the Canadian Alpine Ski Team from 1982 to 1987 and then spent six years as Chief Therapist with the Canadian Freestyle Ski Team. Susie currently has a VANOC-appointed position as the Biathlon Venue Medical Supervisor for the 2010 Olympics.

Susie has a primarily administrative and managerial role within the Whistler Physiotherapy Group. She oversees the business marketing, purchasing and special events. Her direct patient care is limited to athlete assessments, specialized splint fabrication and brace fitting.

Susie is a member of the Whistler Business Readiness Committee for the 2010 Olympics. She is also the past chair of the Whistler Health and Wellness Committee reporting to Tourism Whistler and a past board member of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce.

Gerald Steenkamp

Gerald Steenkamp has been a Physiotherapist since 1998. He qualified from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and moved to Canada in 1999. He has been practicing physiotherapy throughout Western Canada, with a special interest in Sports and Manual Therapy. He has his credentials in Spinal manipulation and is a certified Gunn IMS practitioner. Gerald has extensive international and local experience in musculoskeletal disorders and has treated various national level athletes from a variety of different sports.

Gerald joined the Whistler Physiotherapy group in 2008 and has taken over the roll as Clinic Director for the group of clinics from Susie Mortensen and Marilyn Hellier. He divides his time between direct patient care and administrative duties of the clinics.

Marnie Melsted BSc RD(t)

Marnie completed a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at the University of British Columbia and a Dietetic Internship with the Interior Health Authority. Prior to entering university she was trained in Culinary Arts at George Brown Culinary Institute in Toronto. She is a member of Dietitians of Canada and a registrant of the British Columbia College of Dietitians.

In her new career Marnie has been employed by Kins Market and Cobs Bread as their Nutrition Educator. Her varied experience also includes working with ICU patients in hospital to weight loss clients in the community. Marnie is also a confident public speaker, with experience leading workshops with the Every Women Event held in Whistler, BC and Healthy Heart Classes with the Interior Health Authority.

Her extensive training and understanding of food, nutrition and health give her the ability to translate complex nutritional science into practical advice that you can use.

Marnie's mission is to help people reach their nutritional goals, so that they feel good from the inside out. Her objective is helping you establish delicious, sustainable healthy eating practices.

Christine Lydon, MD


Since receiving her medical degree from Yale in 1994, Christine Lydon, MD has made it her life's work to educate people about sound nutrition, effective training techniques, and healthy approaches to permanent weight loss.

A fitness personality and physique model with a long list of television and print credits, Dr. Lydon has served as a nutrition consultant to large corporations, as well as a personal fitness consultant to a diverse clientele ranging from housewives and firefighters to celebrities like supermodel Carre Otis, Quentin Tarantino, and the late Richard Pryor.

Dr. Lydon currently devotes herself to writing and speaking about weight management, disease prevention, and nonpharmaceutical alternatives for increased longevity. People place their confidence in Dr. Lydon's commentaries because, as her photos clearly illustrate, she practices what she preaches.
